Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 Review

Adobe Photoshop Elements 7

Buy PE 6.0 or earlier1
I have been an avid user of Photoshop Elements for years and recently 'upgraded' to PE 7.0. I am still looking for some sort of added value over PE 6.0. While the program functions adequately, it seems slower than the previous version, even on my quad-core system. Save your money until Adobe comes out with something that actually makes the price of this 'upgrade' worth your hard earned dollars. I would recommend picking up an older version of the software and saving yourself some money.

Organizer isn't converting from Elements 5 well2
I have used Elements 3 and 5 with success, and read some good things about Elements 7 in photography magazines, so I decided to upgrade. However, I have not been able to find a way to import/convert the photos from Elements 5 organizer into Elements 7. Oh, I have the photos, but without their captions (Who wants to recaption over 600 photos? I sure don't!). Maybe someone else can tell me what I'm doing wrong, but I've wasted much of today just trying to get organizer to work, without even getting into the editor much at all.
I will be willing to change my opinion when someone can explain how I can get the import/convert to work like it should.

PE 6.0 is Better1
Adobe Marketing must have been bored. PE 7.0 affords no meaningful enhancement to the functions of 6.0. A sharing feature if 7.0 is a gimmick, and adds nothing to function. I find the program seems to actually run more slowly on my quadcore system, than 6.0. Save your money -- buy 6.0 while its on clearance.

Perfect for Travel!5
I love this little laptop! I took it with me to Japan and enjoyed free wireless in my hotel room and it worked like a charm...how great to be able to read and write e-mail and to connect with my company's website from anywhere...and it weighs so little...heck, I can throw it in my purse and it's good to go...for what it can do...it's a heck of a bargain and a great alternative to a conventional laptop for an airline crew member like me...highly recommended. Initially I was thinking about using the provided CD to load it up with Windows...but why bother...it works great with Linux (and is very user friendly)so I see no reason to make the change.

FANTASTIC !!5
I just received this Netbook today. I have worked with many PC's and every Windows Program out there. Linux is a dream. Turn the PC on and the screen is up in less than five seconds. If you do need Windows, install it, but this is great the way it is. It will not replace my Desktop or bigger Laptop but I can say that it will get used more than the others.
Mine came with a case.

They say " big things come in small packages ", this is the proof !!

Simple, Sleek, good all around4
Exactly what I was looking for. After carrying a heavy laptop that hardly fits under the plane seat, I was thrilled to get this unit to travel with. When on the road, we use it to catch up on email and browse the web.

I 'pimped' it to use the normal Linux front end, much nicer than the dumbed down front end.

The web cam was an extra perk I paid for, but it only works with Skype, and not the usual IM suspects supported under pidgin. I tried to download the Yahoo IM for Linux software, but th were too many dependencies for things not availalble on the debian OS provided.

Beware of this chip in an ASUS Eee 1000h1
This is the third recent review reporting that an ASUS Eee 1000h only recognizes 1 gb of the 2 gb memory on this chip, which Amazon is promoting for use in that computer via a link on the computer's page. Either many of these chips have a problem in the Asus or the returns are being sent out again. The package I received was one that clearly had been opened before. In either case, time and money are better spent on a different SODIMM.

Product doesn't meet specs1
Product is reflected as 1 gb ram on asus eee pc 1000h instead of 2 gb; also, it seems more sluggish than pre-installed 1 gb ram on the 1000h. Amazon review: "not happy at all", By T. Kandil on September 29, 2008 had same problem I'm having. Had to return product to Amazon for a full refund.

Great Memory Product5
I ordered this memory stick for a mini note book and it has been great. It fit just fine, going into the memory slot. It allowed my computer to move through applications considerably faster that before with only a 1 gig ship. Good buy and product.

Genius design, perfect fit5
Perfect design, it is the best protection for the Asus 1000.
Love it, a must have accessory!!!

It does look like a purse though when it is zipped up.
Doesn't bother me but it might bother some.

Great memory foam protection!5
At first, I didn't expect too much. Looks plain and brand that I've never heard before. But looks can be deceiving. The pouch has very nice interior and exterior stitched and padded. It is somewhat thicker compare to my other neoprene pouches, but not by much. It however definitely provides much needed shock absorption/protection from all daily abuse I give. Overall, a great pouch.

  • Fits 10" Asus EEE 1000 / 1000H and other 10" netbooks
  • Premium Quality Shock Absorbing Memory Foam Pouch
  • Water resistant, Zipper Scratch-Free

Fiske Guide to Colleges 2009 (Fiske Guide to Colleges)

Fiske Guide to Colleges 2009 (Fiske Guide to Colleges)
By Edward B Fiske

Customer Reviews

Detailed information with useful student feedback5
This is one of the best college guides out there. It has a lot of great detailed information on the colleges including quotes from students. The number of colleges profiled is just right--enough to provide some options but not so many that it's overwhelming. I really like how Fiske shares which colleges are similar to the one you're interested in. That makes the college search a little easier.

good book.. but old school3
this is a good book, but i can't help but to think that the old school college guidebook is a little outdated in today's tech-savvy world. i'm looking for a searchable tool, somewhere where i can enter in specific criteria that i'm looking for in a college and subsequently find the perfect college for me. i'd realy suggest using a website such as www.campuscompare.com that incorporates the quantitative information available in such a guidebook with the student-reviews and digital media that reveals the personality of the school, all in a searchable database, online format that i am familiar with.

A useful guide!5
The Fiske Guide presents thorough information on a remarkable number of schools. In addition to basic enrollment statistics, this book provides up-to-date contact information for admissions departments, enrollment deadlines, a list of the school's strongest programs/departments, a list of similar ("overlap") schools for each college or university, and an in-depth discussion of academic and social life at each school. Well-researched and accurate. I am an academic counselor, and I refer to this book *constantly*. It is far superior to other college guides I have read. A must-have for anyone embarking on the college search process.

Transcend TS8GSDHC6 8GB SDHC card (SD 2.0 SPD Class 6)

Transcend TS8GSDHC6 8GB SDHC card (SD 2.0 SPD Class 6)
From TRANSCEND

Customer Reviews

Versatile, inexpensive high-level storage solution!5
I bought this SD card for 2 applications:

1) I am a musician who records himself and his students practicing with a "mere" digital pocket camera (both a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4K 8.1MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black) and a Canon PowerShot A720IS 8MP Digital Camera with 6x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom, depending on which movie format I need -- this card works great in both) set on "movie" mode. I've reached the point where I've needed more storage time than I had on the high-performance/speed 2GB Kingston and SanDisk cards I was using, and this card has performed remarkably well.

2) I also make audio-only recordings of myself, as well as rehearsals and performances of larger ensembles I play with on my Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder, and this card provides about 8-hours of recording time at CD quality. I tend to record at higher quality levels (up to 96kHz, 24-bit), so I need more recording space than most, and I've had NO problems with this card for that purpose either.

I'm VERY impressed with this card, and the price is almost so low it's scary -- but WELL worth it! Highly recommended!

Great card, cheap price5
I bought 2 of these prior to a two-week trip to Alaska for use in a Canon Powershot S5 IS camera. They worked great - no issues and seemed to be just as fast as my camera.
Bought a additional two cards prior to a tri-continental trip. So I have four of these in total and have almost filled up all of them. No issues were experienced. Very happy with the purchase, especially the price! Bought all of them directly from Amazon rather than the other retailers.
Bought a memory card reader at the same time since my printer doesn't read SDHC (most older devices won't read SDHC).

Transcend SDHC card5
I was not sure whether this card would work on my canon Powershot A710, but it worked just fine. Very fast as well. I am very happy with this card

Low durability3
I bought this case to go with the new Eee PC I bought for my girlfriend. She liked the colors, and it has a smooth, soft texture. I also liked the simplicity with which the case stretches perfectly over the mini computer without the need for Velcro or zippers. And the reversability is fantastic. So this product should receive 5 stars for its appearance, design, and sense of touch.

However, this product loses two stars because after about a month of normal use, this case has shown serious signs of wear and tear that are disproportionate to the 30 days it's been used. The surface soiled rather easily with black streaks picked up from tabletops. Perhaps it can be washed. I honestly don't know. The most importantly disappointment of all--the case already has developed a small hole in it--after a month only.

(Something to note: The Eee PC already ships with its own black Asus soft case.)

Kroo Reversible Laptop sleeve5
This is a great product to protect my son's Asus Eee PC 4G Surf Laptop. It is a nice color and fits the computer perfectly. He prefers the orange side and it reverses easily and the seams are finished and don't unravel. A good purchase.

Complies with TSA security regulations5
I left my Eee PC in this sleeve taking it through airport security and it went through with no comment or problems. I removed the computer from my bag and put it in its own tray while still in the sleeve. I thought this information might be useful to other buyers.

I like the nice fit of the sleeve and that I can fold back the top and charge the computer without removing it completely from the sleeve. The reversible colors are fun, too. It keeps the computer, which is made for portability, from getting banged up in my bag. A good product and recommended.

Asus Eee PC - Eeempressive!

Do the words ultra-light, ultra-compact, ultra-thin when used for laptops send your wallet scurrying for cover? Sweat no more, Asus came up with the perfect solution for you. Its small, its light and it just works. It's called the Eee PC!

When Asus announced the Eee PC in 2007, people were highly skeptical of its performance and quality considering the low price tag. "Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play" but didn't seem to be easy to pull off. The first Eee PC 4G was released on October 16, 2007. Needless to say it was a major success and sold 300,000 units by the end of the year.

So what was it that made this laptop, if we can call it that, such a huge success? Let's take a closer look. It sports a 7 inch WXGA (800 x 480) screen flanked by stereo speakers on either side and a VGA webcam on the top. Its actual dimensions are 225 × 165 × 21-35 mm and it weighs a shade over 2 lbs. Add to it the usual gamut of onboard audio ports, standard VGA out connector, Ethernet Jack, 3 USB 2.0 ports, one MMC/SD Card holder, built in Wi-Fi and a Kensington Lock slot, one PCI-e mini slot and that's pretty much everything crammed in to the package. There is a microphone too that sits, surprisingly, on the underside.

On the inside it is powered by a 900 Mhz Celeron UMV Processor, already under clocked to 630 Mhz by Asus, whose focus is more on lowering power consumption than number crunching to try and get as much battery life out of its 4 cell Li-Ion battery. Depending up on the usage it can last anywhere from 2 to 3.5 hours. A 910 chipset based motherboard keeps things tidy with all the onboard devices. Memory ranges from 512 MB to 1 GB depending upon the model, which is more than enough to run Xandros, the linux distro shipped with it or Windows XP which will soon be available as an option. But here comes the best part, its shipped with SSD instead of HDD. The result: Lower power consumption, faster performance, and more durability and so on. On the flip side it means they are able to ship it with only 2 GB, 4 GB and 8GB models. And thanks to the preinstalled programs the actual user usable storage space is limited to 400 MB, 1.6 GB and 5.1 GB respectively. Well to wipe that look of disappointment off your face, the SD slot supports SDHC so you can chuck in a 32 GB card in there to take care of your storage needs.

It comes with 40 preinstalled applications including Flash games, Firefox, Open Office, SMPlayer and Skype to take care of most of your productivity and entertainment needs. Ok, so you cannot play Crysis on it, but you can do the basic things like create and use documents, surf the net, chat, play movies and music and so on. It's not a desktop replacement, it's for those who need a laptop but cannot afford one or do not want to lug around a 5-6 pound notebook. It's meant for young kids, senior citizens, students. It's meant for writers like me who would love to be able to travel around with my office restricted to a notepad sized device that weighs less than the Physics book in my college! Asus plans to sell few millions of these this year and with the next generation 9 inch model just announced I don't see anyone stopping them from doing it.

What is Behind the Popularity of the Asus Eee PC 900?

The eagerly awaited Asus Eee PC 900 had become popular even before it came out. Thanks to the good track record of its predecessor the Asus Eee PC 701, many computer enthusiasts waited for the release of the latest addition to the "Easy to Learn, Easy to Work, Easy to Play" line of ultra mobile personal computers (UMPCs). But what gives it the edge over the other UMPCs out in the market?

Functional and Easy to Use

The Asus Eee PC 900 comes preinstalled with Linux Xandros, which presents you with a tabbed desktop. True to its slogan, the desktop tabs are labeled Learn, Work and Play, aside from Internet, Settings and Favorites.

The Internet tab gives you access to the preinstalled Mozilla Firefox for web browsing, Pidgin for instant messaging, and a Webmail button to access your webmail such as Gmail or Hotmail.

The Learn tab offers you educational programs to improve your vocabulary, spelling and arithmetic. There's also a periodic table and planetarium if you're science minded. The artist in you won't be disappointed either, since you'll have Paint to dabble with.

The Work tab makes OpenOffice accessible for all your word processing, spreadsheet and presentation needs.

The Play tab hosts the applications to help you unwind after a long day's work. The Asus Eee PC 900 comes with a media player, a music manager, a sound recorder and a number of games. Yes, you can play Solitaire to your solitary heart's delight!

The Settings tab houses the system utilities and configuration applications. Here's where you can change your computer's date and time, initiate virus scans and configure your touchpad settings.

Lastly, the Favorites tab is where you can save all your favorite links and shortcuts for easy access.

Portability is the Name of the UMPC Game

All these functions would just be dead weight if you had to lug around a supposed UMPC that weighs a ton. Thankfully, even with all these wondrous functions, the Asus Eee PC 900 weighs in at 990 grams. What's amazing is that you get 3 USB ports, a 1.3 Megapixel webcam, an SDHC card reader, an Ethernet port, and Wireless LAN connectivity in a laptop that weighs less than a kilogram. The only connection it doesn't have is Bluetooth. But you can't win them all. Perhaps a later addition to the Eee family will provide it.

The Price is Just Right

If you're still not convinced that the Asus Eee PC 900 with its functions and portability is enough for you, then the price just may win you over. Cnet Asia hailed its predecessor PC 701 as "possibly the cheapest laptop available to consumers". Admittedly the Asus Eee PC 900 has a more expensive price tag, but with a bigger screen (8.9" display), a bigger memory (1024 MB), and a bigger storage capacity (12 GB), Cnet Asia conceded that the Asus Eee PC 900 offers the best value in its class.

With the Asus Eee PC 900 being functional, easy to use and priced just right, it is hardly a surprise that it has become so popular?

Asus Eee PC 4G Surf Galaxy Black

Asus Eee PC 4G Surf (7" Screen, 800 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB Hard Drive, Linux Preloaded) Galaxy Black
From Asus

Customer Reviews

Cool pc5
It's lightweigth, it's really fast, good sound, good video playback, with little keyboard (maybe u will need an external one, i use one), long battery life. Really good option for mobile work.
The hard part is the hard disk format and installation of XP. I follow the guide, but i must enter to some web forums to find solutions. The first thing that i had to do was restore the linux installation and hard disk. after that the windows installation did finish (previously it shut down without finish it). After that all was rigth.
Enjoy it.

Great basic setup and super portability5
This little PC is super light easy to transport. The keyboard takes a little getting used to for touch typing, but once you get the hang of it it's not too bad.

The preloaded Linux OS comes with enough to perform all of the basic necessary tasks including browsing the web with feature rich content including Flash animation. It also has all of the standard Linux utilities to enable whatever level of customization that is desired within the hard disk size constraints. The default desktop is easy to navigate as well even for a computer novice.

The best ever5
OMG this is the best thing I've bought in a long time. I love it!

The wireless works great, I average about 650' (with non-metallic obstructions) from the wireless source with a decent connection. It picked up the nearby networks just fine and connected easily.

For the price this is definitely a great little PC for kids or even people that are really on the go and don't want the hassle of larger lap tops.

Why is the ASUS Eee Pc Good?

ASUS Eee pc was designed in 2007 by ASUS and Intel. The word "Eee" is an advertising slogan for this machine which stands for "the three Es" which means "Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play". ASUS Eee PC is not a big Personal Computer but rather it is a subnotebook. Subnotebooks are small and lightweight portable computers with most of the features of a standard laptop, but smaller. The price of Asus Eee pc was listed around only $199 USD which is why many people were anxiously waiting for the launch date.

- How do I know which model is better?

Nowadays, ASUS uses EeePc 8G, 4G, 4G Surf and 2G Surf as the names for the various models available. That makes it easier for customers to understand what product they are looking for.

For example, if you were to visit a computer shop or shopping website you might see the name of product like below.

"Asus Eee PC 4G (73 Screen, 800 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB Hard Drive, Linux Preloaded)"

4G indicates that the size of Hard Drive is 4GB.

Linux Preloaded indicates that it uses Linux for the OS.

"Asus Eee PC 2G Surf (73 Screen, 800 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 2 GB Hard Drive, Linux Preloaded) Galaxy Black"

2G indicates that the size of Hard Drive is 2GB.

Linux Preloaded indicates that it uses Linux for the OS.

- Why is the ASUS Eee pc good?

Because of the price which is affordable, and the high quality software that is bundled with it. The price of the ASUS Eee pc costs less than half when compared with a laptop. That is why ASUS Eee pc is good.

- What does not come with the ASUS Eee PC?

The ASUS Eee PC does not come with a DVD/RW, but any external USB unit can be used. That helps this machine stay lightweight.

- What kind of work is it appropriate for?

The ASUS Eee PC is appropriate for everybody who is looking for an affordable laptop. Even for kids it can be the first step for them in learning. Being only 7 inches wide makes it great for portability.

- What programs are bundled?

As you know ASUS Eee pc use Linux for the OS, which makes this machine much faster than Window XP. Eee PC runs a custom tab-based interface and uses IceWM as the default window manager. They also included OpenOffice.org (except Draw), Mozilla Firefox, Skype, Tux Paint,, E-mail, a Wikipedia look-up tool, Google Doc,Internet radio applications, and many types of software for entertainment and education.

- Can I replace Linux with Window XP?

ASUS Eee pc comes shipped with Linux, but also with some very simple instructions for replacing Linux with Windows/XP if you have a licensed copy Windows available to install. However, ASUS announced on October 16, 2007 that a future version of the Eee will be sold with Windows XP. Microsoft agreed to lower the price of Windows for Eee PC users to under US$40. We are waiting that day, aren't we?

- Are there any disadvantages?

Yes, there are. The screen is a 800×480 resolution, an odd size. It can be set to 800×600, but that requires some auto-scrolling to get to the top and bottom of the screen. All in all the 800×480 resolution isn't bad, though. There are also no Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock indicators. However there is an excellent freeware utility available on the Web that places indicator lights in the system tray, which may take some time getting used to.

Customer Reviews

Excellent product and service---5
A 10 for this wonderful and amazing product---

Pros. WiFi, bluetooth, web camera, 160 hard drive, 1 GB RAM (Upgraded to 2 GB to better performance), great 10 inch display, memory card reader, three 2.0 usb ports, great processor performance, battery (amazing), wonderful sound for a laptop.

Cons. Nothing! Best true portable machine.

Perfect portability, performance and design---

100% recommended.

ASUS Eee PC 1000H 160GB5
The 1000H arrived on 9/24/08. It worked just fine out of the box after going through the setup. The display is very bright, I had to set the brightness 2/3 of the way down.

I did manage to "scrooch" XP trying to install Trend Micro 2007 and I had to do a restore using the ASUS restore DVD with a Lite-On DX-8A1H external USB CD/DVD drive. This took 15 minutes.

ASUS includes a 90-day trial version of Eset Nod32 anti-virus. I am using this and the Windows Firewall. There is minimal junk-ware pre-installed and what there is can be easily removed if you don't activate it first.

The keyboard is very useable and there is almost no flex in it. I didn't buy the Eee PC to write an encyclopedia, I bought it for when we travel to read email, etc. The touchpad operation/sensitivity can be improved by going into the hardware setup and setting the touchpad sampling rate to 20, the minimum value.

The wireless b/g/n connection works well with my Linksys WRT54G2 router and I can see and logon to several neighbors' networks as well.

I haven't tested the battery run-time but the battery meter with a wireless connection and the Bluetooth turned off indicates at least 5 hours after a full charge.

The included neoprene sleeve is excellent, I intend to carry the Eee PC in the sleeve inside an 11" boarding bag when we travel.

I'm very impressed5
So I got this bad boy in via UPS this morning and so far I am very pleased. I selected super saver shipping and got this in two days of it becoming instock after preorder phase so that was pretty cool. Anyway back to the item in hand. It definetly lives up to the hype and i'll tell you why...

It is very sexy looking for a net book and when I showed a couple neighbors they where impressed with it's look as well.

It is easy to type on for the most part. There is a slight adjustment to the placement of certain keys but I don't believe it should take more than a week to get into that comfort zone. I've used smaller netbooks and this one is a vast improvement in terms of size.

Bluetooth is awesome! I conected to my bluetooth enabled Samsung Yp2 mp3 players and performed a wireless transfer of a few movies and some music. I'm sure when it is time for me to connect to my cell phone for internet access it will work just as easily. BTW wireless N is the shiznit.

Oh yeah this thing has XP which I hate to say is just outright better than vista. I've tried to like my vista Acer laptop but it just sucks. Its dual core and all but it feels much slower than this ASUS.

Oh yeah it is whisper quite and does not get hot at all. Hardly even qualifies as warm after running Rhapsody, and having several tabs on Opera open at once.

But I will admit that while the screen is super bright and unreflective the picture was not as sharp as I invisioned. I mean it is still pretty crisp, but not quiet what I expected (although my expectations were through the roof after reading reviews of the 80gb model.)

Hope this little review of mine helps any buyers out there narrow down there choices. Holla.
